Every month one has to use different apps to pay electricity, water, gas, FASTag and other important bills. But now there are preparations to make this work easier. WhatsApp has launched its Bill Payments feature in India. Through this, users will be able to view and pay many types of bills within WhatsApp.
The company is rolling out this feature in India in a phased manner. This feature will be made more widely available to Android and iOS users in the coming weeks.
How will the Bill Payments feature of WhatsApp work?
WhatsApp's new Bill Payments feature is based on Bharat Connect (BBPS) network. Through this, users will get access to thousands of billers of different categories.
According to the company, this facility includes 30 categories and 22,722 billers. These include payments like electricity, water, gas, FASTag, insurance, credit card and loan repayment.
This may reduce the need for users to open separate apps for each type of bill.
How to pay electricity and water bill through WhatsApp?
If this facility is available on your WhatsApp account, then you have to follow some easy steps to make bill payment.
1. First of all open WhatsApp in your phone.
2. Tap on the rupee icon visible at the top of the home screen.
3. Select the bill category as per your requirement.
4. After this select the concerned biller.
5. Now enter the necessary information related to customer number or account.
6. After confirming the information, the bill amount will be visible on WhatsApp.
7. Check the bill details and amount.
8. After this complete the payment from the available payment options.
Options like UPI, debit card or credit card may be available for payment.
Multiple bills will be managed in one place
The special thing about this feature is not just bill payment. WhatsApp is also giving Household Bills Summary in it.
Through this, previously paid billers can be easily accessed again. This means there may be less need to re-locate the biller every month.
Apart from this, multiple accounts can also be managed under a single biller. This can make it easier to handle bills for different connections or accounts at home.
Bill categories will be available on the Payments screen
Popular bill categories can be shown directly in the Payments Home section of WhatsApp. Through the See All option, users will be able to browse more than 20 categories.
With this, apart from normal bills like electricity, water and gas, other important payments can also be made from one place.
Not all users have got the feature yet
WhatsApp's Bill Payments feature is currently not available to all Indian users at once. The company is rolling it out gradually.
More users are expected to get this feature on Android and iOS in the coming weeks. If the Bill Payments option is not currently visible in your WhatsApp, you will have to wait for the feature to reach your account.
There will be less hassle of changing apps to pay bills.
This new feature of WhatsApp is an attempt to bring everyday payments on a single platform. With multiple payments from electricity, water, gas to FASTag and insurance managed at one place, it can become easier for users to manage their monthly bills.
Now it remains to be seen how fast the users adopt it after the rollout of this feature is completed in India.
