Correct method of Vakrasana for relief from waist and back pain

Vakrasana: Yoga asana beneficial for waist and back

New DelhiNowadays, due to sitting for a long time, wrong posture and lack of physical activities, the problems of waist and back pain have increased. In such a situation, some simple yoga asanas, like Vakrasana, can be helpful in keeping the body active.

Vakrasana is considered a useful yoga asana for the spine and waist. Its regular practice can help in increasing flexibility in the body as well as improving the digestive system.

According to Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, to do Vakrasana, first sit in Dandasana position with straight legs spread on the ground. Keep both the legs together and keep the spine straight. Now take a deep breath.

After this, bend the left leg and place its toe on the ground near the right knee. While exhaling, take your right hand near the left knee and hold the sole of the foot. If this is difficult to do, the palm can also be placed on the ground near the left foot.

Now keep the left hand on the ground behind the back, fingers should be in the opposite direction from the body. While breathing in this position, keep your spine straight. Then while exhaling, slowly turn the neck and back to the left. Bend as much as you can comfortably. Do not try to pull forcefully. After remaining in this position for some time, slowly return to normal position.

Practicing Vakrasana regularly and correctly can help in increasing spinal flexibility. It is also helpful in relieving strain and pain in the waist and shoulders, especially for those who sit for long periods of time.

This asana is also beneficial for the digestive system. Its practice can provide relief from common digestive problems like constipation, gas and acidity. Light pressure and twisting movements on the internal organs of the body can improve digestion.
