The smoke, steam and oil released while cooking in the kitchen gradually starts accumulating on the exhaust fan. After some time, a thick layer of grease starts appearing on the fan and its shutter. Not only does it make the fan look dirty, but when excessive dirt accumulates, it also becomes difficult to clean.
If similar stubborn grease has accumulated on the exhaust fan of your kitchen, then it can be cleaned with the help of some easy steps. Digital creator Shashank Alshi has shared a video on his Instagram explaining how to clean the exhaust fan and its shutters. Let us know the easy process.
Easy way to clean exhaust fan
Step 1- Remove the shutter and easily removable parts
Before starting cleaning, carefully remove the exhaust fan shutter. After this, separate the parts of the fan which can be taken out easily.
Keep in mind that if it takes too much force to remove any part, do not pull it forcefully. Due to this, any part of the fan may break or get damaged.
Step 2- Apply coconut oil on the accumulated grease
If a thick layer of oil and grease has accumulated on the fan, apply some coconut oil on cotton or a clean cloth. Apply it thoroughly on the lubricated area.
After applying oil, leave it for about 30 minutes. This can soften the accumulated grease to some extent and make it easier to clean later.
Step 3- Soak the removed parts in hot water
While the oil is doing its job on the fan, fill a tub or large vessel with hot water. Add a small amount of detergent powder and cleaning powder to it.
Now soak the parts taken out from the fan in this solution for about 5 minutes. After this, clean the dirt and grease accumulated on them with the help of a brush. If needed, you can brush again with a light hand.
Step 4- Clean the fan of grease
After about 30 minutes, wipe off the oil and loose grease on the fan with a clean cloth or tissue. After this, the outer part can be cleaned with a mild cleaner as per need.
After cleaning all the removed parts thoroughly, let them dry completely. Only when all the parts are dry, put them back in the fan.
Keep these things in mind while cleaning
-
Before starting cleaning, completely switch off the power supply of the fan.
-
Do not apply water or wet cloth on the motor part of the fan.
-
Do not apply too much force while removing any part.
-
Re-fit parts soaked in water only after they have completely dried.
-
Protect the electrical parts of the fan from water and moisture during cleaning.
In this way, with a little care and the help of some easy household items, the grease and dirt accumulated on the kitchen exhaust fan can be cleaned.
