The incidence of snakes coming out of houses and surrounding areas increases during summer and rainy season. Many times these crawling creatures even hide inside parked vehicles. They may find the engine area, underside and other dark places of the car safe to hide.
In such a situation, it is very important to take some important precautions before starting the car. Let us know through which routes a snake can enter the vehicle and what can be done to avoid it.
A snake can reach the engine from under the car
The underbody part of the vehicle could be a possible entry point for the snake. It can reach the engine bay by crawling through gaps and other parts under the car.
This area remains relatively quiet and dark after the engine is turned off. If the car is parked near bushes, grass or a deserted place for a long time, extra caution should be taken at such places.
Check door and rubber seals
If the doors and windows of the car are not completely closed, the possibility of small creatures getting inside increases. Additionally, the rubber seals on the doors can become worn, cut, or loose over time. In such a situation a gap may form.
Therefore, check all door seals from time to time and replace damaged rubber.
Also look in the trunk and under the carpet
Not only the engine bay, but also the gaps around the trunk and floor of the car should be checked. In old vehicles, rust can cause small holes or cracks to form in the floor, through which small creatures can gain access to the cabin.
If the car is old, it becomes more important to regularly check the floorboard and boot area.
Be careful about parking space
Avoid parking the car in a place where there is tall grass, bushes or garbage accumulated all around. If possible, park the vehicle in a clean and open place.
Also, keep cleaning around the car regularly, so that there is no place for snakes and other creatures to hide.
Don't leave food waste in the car
Leaving food scraps, packets or other garbage inside the car can attract rats and other small creatures. Where rats or other prey are present, the likelihood of encountering a snake may also increase.
Therefore, it is important to maintain cleanliness in and around the car cabin.
If you see a snake in the car, do not try to catch it yourself.
If you see a snake inside the car or in the engine area, do not panic and try to go near it or catch it. Get out of the vehicle by maintaining a safe distance and seek help from expert snake rescue team or the concerned forest department.
After seeing a snake, it is not advisable to drive the car without getting it checked, because it may be present in some hidden part.
