Unique ways to protect your home
Nowadays people rely on locks, cameras and alarms to protect their homes, but in ancient Europe the approach to security was completely different. At that time, people feared thieves as well as evil spirits.
Therefore, many strange things were done in homes, which today's people are amazed to see. People would make special marks on walls and wood, and hide objects such as hair, pins, and nails in bottles. Old shoes have also been found under the walls and floors in some old houses. It was believed that these things kept the house safe from evil forces.
Although these measures seem strange today, people of that time considered them a means of protection. These objects were kept in those parts of the house which were considered gateways to evil powers.
Importance of special mark
Special marks were made on the walls
In old European homes, special marks were made on doors, windows, and fireplaces, called 'witch marks' or 'protection marks'. The purpose of these marks was to keep evil spirits and witches away from the house.
These included round designs, V-like lines, crosses and five-cornered marks. One common symbol was the 'Daisy Wheel', which served to ward off evil spirits.
hiding strange things in bottles
Used to hide strange things in bottles
'Witch Bottle' was used to ward off evil powers. These were ordinary bottles, but they were filled with things like hair, pins, and nails. Things like urine were also found in some bottles.
These bottles were hidden inside the house so that they were not easily visible. It was believed that these bottles attracted evil forces within themselves.
mystery of old shoes
Used to hide old shoes in the house too
In old houses, not only bottles, but also old shoes were deliberately hidden. These shoes were found inside walls, under floors, and near fireplaces.
There is no apparent reason for hiding these shoes, but the shoes were believed to bring good luck to the home and provide protection from evil forces.
Marks were made on wood
Marks were also made on wood
To protect against evil powers, special marks were also made on the wood of the house. Round marks and other designs were made on doors and windows.
At some places, marks of light burning have also been found on wooden beams, which were used for security.
