New Delhi, September 19 (IANS). 'Semicon India- 2026' was organized from 17 to 19 September at the India International Convention and Expo Center located at Yashobhoomi in the national capital. The confidence of global investors in Semicon India has increased. On Saturday, the last day of the event, Derek Shields, Business Development Director, Pfeifer Vacuum India, said that India's semiconductor ecosystem is moving from infancy to true expansion.
He described the vision of 'Made in India for the World' as the next stage of this growth.
“Semicon India has had a great day and what a show,” said Derek Shields. It has been very busy. You can say that the ecosystem in the semiconductor sector is definitely growing in India. I've seen this growth year after year, but now it's becoming more real. There is a lot of investment happening in India and it is really the place to focus.”
He further said that we are personally investing a lot of time and money and scaling up our footprints within India to support the planned expansion of semiconductors in the country. This is fantastic, great to see. It's great to see it grow.
Regarding India's business, Director Derek said that I see India still in its beginning. There is a lot of investment taking place, mainly from supply bases, to support the industry. I think it's more isolated at the moment. It is 'Made in India', but as PM Modi had said earlier, 'It is 'Made in India' for the world and has to go global.' I see it coming, but I think the infrastructure still needs to be put in place to make it mainstream.
Regarding cooperation in strategic partnerships, Director Derek Shields said that it is all about partnerships, ventures and joint ventures. A large amount of investment in India is coming from external sources and the government. This is very important and if this trend continues, India will emerge as a serious and important player, this is certain considering the kind of activities taking place in the Indian ecosystem. The challenges before India are related to bringing more knowledge base and foreign trained personnel into the country. Experience will be required to make it successful.
