Rakesh Bedi's acting journey and personality rights
Veteran Indian cinema and television actor Rakesh Bedi, who has been entertaining audiences for over four decades, has moved the Delhi High Court to protect his personality rights. Bedi is demanding a ban on any commercial or unauthorized use of her name, image, voice and the characters played by her.
Recently, Rakesh Bedi, who received praise for his character 'Jameel Jamali' in director Aditya Dhar's successful film 'Dhurandhar' and its sequel 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge', filed this petition.
Demand for protection of personality rights
The case was presented before Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani and later assigned to the Intellectual Property Division bench.
The Delhi High Court has heard several cases related to personality rights in recent years and has given orders prohibiting unauthorized use of the name, image, voice or likeness of public persons.
Many celebrities, such as Tabu, Yuvraj Singh, Abhishek Sharma, and Salman Khan, have also obtained protection in such cases.
The increasing number of these cases has given rise to a discussion on how personality rights are being used in India. These rights are related to a person's identity, privacy, reputation and business interests. This issue has become even more important due to the increasing use of AI and the spread of unauthorized content online.
Rakesh Bedi and the character of 'Dhurandhar'
After the release of 'Dhurandhar' in December, Bedi had talked about her character Jameel Jamali. He had hinted that the audience will see a new side of the character in the sequel. His prediction proved correct as Jameel's character became even more serious in 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge'. Bedi said, “All I can say is that I will look much more dangerous and scary in this than my character was in Part 1.”
Bedi also talked about various aspects of Jamil's character. He said that the character looks clever and funny, but he also has an aggressive side.
Rakesh Bedi has played an important role in the film 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' released on March 19. This film includes actors like Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun.

Born on 1 December 1954, Rakesh Bedi has worked in more than 150 films since the 1970s. He is known for his comic characters in films like 'Chashme Baddoor' and 'Mera Damad'. Bedi has also made significant contributions to television and theatre, her popular shows include 'Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi', 'Shriman Shrimati', and 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah'.
