New Delhi, September 28 (IANS). Union Labor and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday that India is providing health protection to 25 crore people through 'Employees' State Insurance Corporation' (ESIC). He also mentioned the social security and welfare programs of the government.
Speaking at the CII-EFI National Conference on 'Industrial Relations and Labor and Awards 2026', Mandaviya said the government is also providing free food grains to 80 crore people.
He said that 10 crore farmers get Rs 2,000 directly in their bank accounts every four months.
The minister said, “Today there are 10 such states in the country which deposit amounts like Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500 or Rs 1,200 every month in the accounts of women.”
Talking about the balance between industrial relations and international labor practices and India's own traditions and systems, the Union Minister said, “When we talk about industrial relations… on one hand we have ILO international practices and international frameworks, and on the other hand India has its own traditions and practices; so I find it a little different.”
Mandaviya said his experience of serving as a minister in several ministries over the last 10-11 years has given him the opportunity to engage with various forums and stakeholders in India and abroad.
He said India's approach to industrial relations needs to take into account both the international framework and the country's own social and economic context.
Earlier in September, the minister had asked state governments to conduct a detailed assessment of the current use of cess funds, identify gaps and find new ways to effectively utilize them keeping in mind the long-term welfare and social security of workers.
The minister further asked the states to comprehensively assess the impact of the labor codes after one year of their implementation and identify areas where they may need to be implemented better.
