Mileage is still a very important factor for people while buying a new car in India. Especially in the compact SUV segment, customers want a vehicle that can provide SUV looks, good features and better fuel efficiency. Renault is preparing to launch its new Bridger SUV in this segment. Renault has introduced the Bridger Concept and its production model is expected to arrive in India by the end of 2027. Will Renault Bridger get a powerful hybrid engine?
The most talked about Bridger is its possible hybrid powertrain. According to reports, Renault is working on providing a 1.2-litre hybrid engine in it. It has been revealed that Miller Cycle technology has been used in this engine, which is used for better efficiency.
An important example has also come to light regarding this technology. At the Vienna Motor Symposium, AVL showed a high-efficiency engine demonstrator on a Dacia Duster, which achieved a claimed efficiency of around 3.3 liters per 100 kilometres, or about 30 km/l.
However, this does not mean that the upcoming Bridger will definitely deliver a mileage of 30 km/l in real Indian driving conditions. At present this data is related to possible technology and reports.
Option of petrol, hybrid and EV can be available
The company is preparing Renault Bridger as a multi-powertrain SUV. According to reports, it may also include hybrid and electric powertrains along with petrol.
Apart from this, Renault is also preparing a new 1.2-litre petrol engine. Reports have revealed that work is being done on its Turbo and CNG versions. There is also a possibility of getting a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine in Bridger.
Will compete with these SUVs including Tata Nexon
After the arrival of Renault Bridger, competition in the Indian sub-4 meter SUV segment may further increase. Apart from Tata Nexon, its direct competition can be with vehicles like Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq.
That means, through this SUV, Renault can target such customers who want better space, modern features and different powertrain options in a short SUV.
Rugged SUV look will be seen in the design
Looking at the Bridger Concept, it is clear that Renault has kept its design quite rugged and boxy. It features SUV design elements like wide wheel arches, large alloy wheels, LED lighting and a spare wheel on the rear tailgate.
The concept also claims to have around 200mm of ground clearance and around 400 liters of boot space. However, changes in some of these things are possible in the production model.
What can be found in the features?
The production model of Bridger is expected to get many modern features. However, official information about all the features has not been revealed yet.
Possible features may include features like a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, 360-degree camera, connected car technology, premium seating and panoramic sunroof.
There are also discussions about features like ADAS, but final information about these will be clear only after the official unveiling of Renault's production model.
Will it get AWD?
Some reports have mentioned the possibility of an all-wheel drive i.e. AWD version of the Bridger. But as per the information available now, AWD has not been officially confirmed for the upcoming production model in India. Current reports also suggest the possibility of a FWD setup.
Therefore, it would be better to consider AWD only as a possible feature for now.
When will Renault Bridger be launched?
Renault has made it clear through the Bridger Concept that the production model of the SUV is being prepared for India. According to current auto reports, its launch is expected by the end of 2027. Renault is working on a plan to develop it in India and produce it at its Chennai plant.
How much can the price be?
There has been no official announcement from Renault regarding the price yet. Current auto industry estimates suggest the ex-showroom price of the Bridger is likely to be around ₹7 lakh to ₹11 lakh. However, the price of hybrid or electric variants may be higher than this.
Therefore, the starting price of ₹ 9 lakh should only be seen as a possible estimate for now.
