Be it evening tea or a small party with friends at home, if you get something for breakfast which is ready instantly, which is crispy from outside and cheesy from inside, then the fun is different. If you also want to try something different from the everyday pakodas and samosas, then Poha Cheese Poppers can be a great option. The special thing about this recipe is that Poha, spinach and boiled potatoes are used in it. Mozzarella cheese is stuffed in the middle and then coated with breadcrumbs and fried until they become golden and crisp. So let's know the easy recipe to make delicious Poha Cheese Poppers at home.
Ingredients for Poha Cheese Poppers
- 1 cup soaked poha
- 1 cup blanched spinach
- 2 green chillies
- 2 boiled and mashed potatoes
- 2 tbsp corn flour
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp chili flakes
- 1 tsp mixed herbs
- salt as per taste
- ½ cup small cubes of mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup flour
- water, as per need
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- oil for frying
First prepare the poha-spinach mixture.
First of all, wash the poha thoroughly and soak it for some time. Now put it in the mixer along with blanched spinach and green chillies and grind it coarsely.
Take out this mixture in a big bowl. Add mashed boiled potatoes, corn flour, half cup breadcrumbs, chili flakes, mixed herbs and salt as per taste.
Mix everything well and knead it with hands. The mixture should be such that small balls can be easily made from it.
Now there will be interesting cheese stuffing
Take a small portion of the prepared mixture in your hand and make a lemon sized ball. Then flatten it slightly on the palm and place a small cube of mozzarella cheese in the middle.
Now lift the mixture from all sides and cover the thing completely. Roll it lightly between your hands and shape it into a round ball.
Make sure the cheese is completely enclosed in the mixture. If cheese is left outside, it may melt and come out while frying.
Coating with flour and breadcrumbs
Now take half a cup of flour in a bowl and add little water to it and prepare a medium thick batter.
Place breadcrumbs in another plate. Now dip the prepared cheese ball in flour solution and then roll it well in breadcrumbs.
This will create a uniform crispy coating all around the ball.
Place in freezer for 10 minutes
After all the cheese balls are ready, place them in a plate and keep them in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
This will allow the coating to set properly and reduce the chances of the balls breaking or the cheese leaking out quickly while frying.
Now it's time to fry the poppers
Heat oil in a pan. Take care that the oil does not heat too fast.
Now fry the prepared cheese poppers slowly on medium flame. Fry them until their color becomes golden and the outer coating becomes nicely crispy.
Frying on high flame can cause the breadcrumbs on the outside to burn quickly, while the cheese inside will not melt properly. Therefore, it would be better to fry them slowly on medium flame.
When the poppers turn golden-brown, take them out and place them on tissue paper to remove excess oil.
Serve hot cheese poppers
Now your Crispy Poha Cheese Poppers are ready. Serve them hot with tomato ketchup, green chutney or dip of your choice.
Crunchy on the outside and melty on the inside, these poppers can be liked by everyone from kids to adults. The special thing is that a completely different kind of snack can be prepared by using everyday ingredients like poha and spinach.
Tip: If you want a less oil option, you can also try cooking them in the air fryer or oven. Time and temperature may vary slightly depending on your device.
