JSW Combat SUV: New SUV coming to compete with Fortuner! Will be equipped with hybrid power and premium features

A new big player may soon enter the Indian SUV market. JSW Motors is working on its first passenger vehicle SUV, which is expected to be based on Chery's Jetour T2. The prototype of this SUV has been seen several times on Indian roads during testing. In the reports, its possible name is being said as JSW Combat, although the company has not yet officially confirmed the name, price and complete specifications.
Due to its large and boxy design, this SUV can create a strong presence on the road. For this reason, it is being seen as an alternative to models like Toyota Fortuner. However, there will be a lot of difference in the platform and powertrain of both the SUVs.
Plug-in Hybrid: The biggest feature of SUV
This SUV of JSW is expected to get plug-in hybrid technology. Its base model Jetour T2 i-DM in the global market uses a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine along with electric motors and battery pack.
According to old global spec data, its hybrid system has been capable of delivering a combined power of around 381hp and 610Nm torque. However, it is not yet clear whether the SUV coming to India will get the same output. The company may make changes to the powertrain and drive system in the India-spec model.
The plug-in hybrid setup could differentiate the JSW SUV compared to the petrol or diesel engines of the Fortuner.
Many hi-tech features will be available in Premium Cabin
A long list of features can be seen in the global model of Jetour T2. It includes features like a large 15.6-inch infotainment system, digital driver display, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, ventilated front seats and premium audio system.
Apart from this, safety and driving-assist technology like 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS are also available in the global model. Which of these features will be provided in the upcoming JSW SUV in India, the company can give information about it closer to the launch.
The SUV will be around 4.8 meters long
This SUV will not be small even in terms of size. The length of Global Jetour T2 is about 4.8 meters and width is about 2 meters. In such a situation, the Indian model of JSW can also be kept in the large SUV category.
Its boxy design, high stance and rugged exterior could make it attractive among premium SUV buyers. However, it is too early to make direct comparisons with the Fortuner, as both the vehicles have different technology and platforms.
There is still suspense regarding launch and price
JSW had earlier revealed plans to launch its first SUV in 2026. Now the reports coming out suggest that it is likely to be launched in December 2026 or early 2027. However, no definite launch date has been given by the company yet.
Different estimates have also come forward regarding the price. Initially the price segment was said to be Rs 15 to 30 lakh, while later reports have estimated the price to be around Rs 30 to 50 lakh.
If the JSW offers the right combination of powerful design, plug-in hybrid technology and premium features along with attractive pricing, then this SUV can attract buyers of premium SUVs like Fortuner as well as Skoda Kodiaq in the Indian market. Currently, an official announcement regarding its price, name and India-spec features is awaited.
