It is completely normal to be nervous about the first date. In such a situation, many people start explaining everything excessively in order to make a good impression on the other person. If someone asks a small question, you start telling a long story in response. However, giving too much explanation can sometimes make your self-confidence appear weak. The purpose of the first date is to understand each other and have a natural conversation, not to explain everything. In such a situation, it is better to avoid giving too much clarification while answering some questions.
1. Don't be too clear about your boundaries
If you want to tell the other person about some of your boundaries on the first date, then tell them very clearly. But there is no need to give a long explanation about your preferences or limitations. You can just say that, “I don't feel comfortable in this.” Your choices and personal boundaries don't require someone else's approval.
2. “Why are you still single?”
On the first date, if the other person asks why you are still single, there is no need to prove yourself right while answering this question. You may be focusing on your career, have come out of an old relationship, like to live alone or have not yet found the right partner – any of these reasons can be there. If you feel comfortable, you can share your story, but it is not necessary to give a long explanation about your being single.
3. “Why is everything not well in your life?”
Every person's life and circumstances are different. If on the first date the other person asks questions about your life, problems or future, then it is a good thing to answer honestly. But there is no need to prove or explain every decision of your life to the other person. Share as much as you feel is necessary and convenient.
4. “Why did it take so long to reply?”
Sometimes it is not possible to respond to a message immediately due to work, studies or other responsibilities. In such a situation, if the other person asks why it took so much time to reply, then you can explain your reason in a simple way. There is no need to give a long explanation about every small thing. The first date should not be like an interrogation or investigation. Its purpose is to get to know each other, talk and understand how comfortable both of you feel with each other.
Be confident instead of giving too much clarification
The most important thing on the first date is that you do not try to prove yourself to someone else's liking. Keep your views clear, listen to the other person and set your limits where necessary. A short and clear answer given with confidence often leaves a better impression than a long explanation.
