If you are bored of eating the same food every day and are thinking of making something new and tasty, then you can try Dal Dhokli with mini idlis made from rice flour. This dish prepared with toor and moong dal, favorite vegetables, sambar spices and sour taste of tamarind tastes delicious. The seasoning of mustard, cumin and curry leaves further enhances its taste.
This is a dish made in one vessel, which can be served for lunch or dinner. Let us know the easy recipe to make it.
1. First soak the pulses
First of all, take one fourth cup of toor dal and one fourth cup of moong dal. Wash both thoroughly with clean water and soak for about 10 minutes. This will make it easier to cook the pulses.
2. Make mini idli with rice flour
Add 1 cup rice flour, half teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon chili flakes in a vessel and mix. Now prepare the mixture by slowly adding hot water into it.
When the dough cools down a bit, knead it with hands to make a soft dough. Apply light oil on your hands and make small balls of dough and shape them like mini idli or small dhokli.
3. Fry vegetables and spices in cooker
Now heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pressure cooker. Add 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste to it and fry it lightly. After this add chopped vegetables like onion, tomato, cabbage, beans, carrots and peas as per your choice.
Fry the vegetables for 1 to 2 minutes. Then add turmeric, red chili powder and 1 tablespoon sambar masala and mix well.
4. Add lentils and water and cook
Now add soaked tur and moong dal in the cooker. Add salt as per taste and add about 2 to 3 cups of water as per requirement. Let the mixture boil. After this, add the prepared mini idli or rice dhokli one by one and stir gently so that they do not break. Close the lid of the cooker and cook on medium flame for about 3 to 4 whistles. After this, turn off the gas and let the pressure of the cooker release on its own.
5. Increase the sweet and sour taste by adding tamarind water.
Open the lid after the pressure of the cooker is completely released. Now add tamarind water and finely chopped fresh coriander as per taste and mix. Tamarind water gives mild sourness to this dish, which matches well with the taste of dal and sambar masala.
6. Prepare special tadka of mustard seeds and curry leaves.
Now heat 1 teaspoon oil in a small pan. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves and some Kashmiri red chilli powder. When the mustard seeds start crackling and the aroma of curry leaves starts coming out, pour the tadka over the prepared dal dhokli. Now, your delicious dal dhokli is ready. Serve it hot and if you wish, add some green coriander on top.
