IISc director said at the convocation ceremony of Adani University, there is immense potential in AI, but truth and trust are important.

Ahmedabad, October 31 (IANS). Artificial intelligence (AI) is creating new opportunities in education and scientific research, but its growing influence also raises questions about truth, trust, and human relationships. This statement was given by IISc Director Govindan Rangarajan on Saturday.

Addressing the third convocation of Adani University, Rangarajan said, “AI offers immense potential in education and research. It can help us solve complex problems and accelerate scientific discoveries. But we must also be conscious of its consequences.”

He said, “When photos, videos and information can be produced so reliably, how do we know what is true? And as technology brings us closer digitally, are we becoming further and further away from each other? We should embrace the capabilities of AI, but also think seriously about what we might lose.”

Meanwhile, Adani University awarded 374 degrees to students of the 2026 batch.

10 students received medals for academic excellence, which include five gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

Dr. Preeti Adani, President, Adani University, presided over the function and welcomed the chief guest.

He said, “We are fortunate to have Prof. Rangarajan as our Chief Guest. His distinguished contributions to mathematics, research and academic leadership are a powerful inspiration to our graduate students and to all of us as we work towards making Adani University a leading research-based university.”

Talking about the relationship between industry and academia, he said, “The aim is not for industry to simply tell a university what it should teach. Rather, the experience gained from challenging real-world situations can bring to the fore questions that neither industry nor academia could have addressed alone.”

“India has built infrastructure on a remarkable scale. Now we have to learn to innovate on a larger scale and develop new ideas,” he said. He urged the students to work on such new inventions whose benefits can reach the most deprived sections of the society.

Presenting the annual report, Provost Prof. (Dr.) Dhawal Pujara highlighted the contributions of the faculty members, staff, students and industry partners. He informed about efforts to strengthen the academic base, develop research environment and work more closely with industry and society.

Established in 2022, Adani University focuses on education, applied learning and research in line with industry needs. Its long-term goal is to develop into a multidisciplinary institution for education and research that can contribute to India's development and nation building.
