CJP attacks government for not gathering crowd at Jantar Mantar; ‘Shame on you, don’t do drama on 15th August’

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi since June 20, has not received public support as expected. The party, which became increasingly popular on social media, claimed to have lakhs of members, but due to the expected crowd not reaching the protest site, there is said to be an atmosphere of disappointment in the organization. CJP founder Abhijeet Deepke had claimed before coming to Delhi that 11 lakh people had joined his party. The party had also said that it has gained more new followers on social media than BJP and Congress in just 4 days. However, contrary to these claims, not even a few thousand people could reach the demonstration organized at Jantar Mantar. After not getting public support, the statement of CJP spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya came into controversy. Expressing his displeasure at the people of Delhi, he used sharp words against them. Not only this, he also termed the patriotic programs organized on August 15 as a “gimmick”.

In an interview given to a YouTube channel, he expressed his displeasure over the small number of Delhiites turning up for the protest and made sharp remarks. Vijeta Dahiya said that people from many states including Jharkhand, Bihar, Assam have reached Delhi to join the protest, but a large number of people living in the capital have not yet joined the movement. He said, “Among those who have come to Jantar Mantar, some are from Jharkhand, some are from Bihar, some are from Assam. Those who live here in Delhi and have not come even once in 24 days, I directly tell them that they should feel ashamed.” He further said that if people do not come forward on national issues, then there is no point in showing patriotism only on national festivals. Dahiya said, “If you are not concerned about the country, then don’t do all that drama on August 15. I would call it drama only. The real love for the country is that you stand for the issues of the country and the people of the country. If that is not patriotism, then what is the use of it?”

‘Why isn’t the heart of the public, not the government, hurting?

In the video, Dahiya says that social activist Sonam Wangchuk is constantly being appealed to end her fast, but she is not ready to back down from her demands. In such a situation, he appealed to the general public to suggest other ways to continue the movement. Dahiya said, “I ask people to suggest alternatives as to how the fight can be kept alive, so that they do not have to go on a hunger strike. I want the support of the public, opposition parties and celebrities.” He further said that till now no positive initiative has been seen from the government, but he is more saddened that the general public is also not joining the movement in large numbers. He said, “The government’s heart is not breaking, but I am asking why the public’s heart is not breaking? I respect and salute all the people who have come here, but I want to ask the rest of the people why they are not coming?”

Even if 20 thousand people had come, they would have asked Wangchuk to end the fast.

Talking to media persons, Dahiya said that he did not understand on what basis Wangchuk should be asked to end his hunger strike. According to him, if the movement had received widespread public support and at least 20 thousand people had gathered at Jantar Mantar, then he could have told Wangchuk that he was getting enough support to carry forward his fight. Dahiya said that it is difficult to say this in the current circumstances, because the movement has not received the level of public support that was expected.
