Sharad Pawar’s NCP’s condition on delimitation bill, decision on support will be taken only after written proposal to increase 50% seats.
The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) has made its stand clear regarding the proposed delimitation and constitutional amendment bill related to women’s reservation in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. Working President and MP of the party Supriya Sule Said on Wednesday that if the Lok Sabha seats 50 percent increase The government brings the proposal in writing, only then will his party consider supporting this bill.
Discussion will take place after written proposal is received
In the press conference held in Mumbai, Supriya Sule said that at present no such official or written proposal has come to her from the government. He said that the party will not decide its stand on the basis of oral statements alone.
He said that if the proposal to increase the seats by 50 per cent comes formally and the INDIA alliance partners also agree to it, then the NCP is ready to discuss the issue in detail.
‘It is not appropriate to comment without seeing the bill’
Supriya Sule said that the new bill has not yet reached her. In such a situation, it would not be appropriate to comment without knowing its provisions. She said that as soon as the bill is presented in Parliament, she will study it and make the party’s official stand clear within 24 hours.
He also said that the decision on any constitutional amendment should be taken only on the basis of facts and written documents.
Also expressed opinion on women’s reservation
Referring to the Women’s Reservation Bill, Supriya Sule said that such important bills should be passed unanimously. He said that in a democracy, it is necessary to create a broad consensus on such historic decisions, so that the confidence of all states and political parties is maintained.
Position presented after discussion with allies
The NCP (Sharad Pawar) leader said that before the press conference, she had a detailed discussion with the Congress leadership, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) leader Sanjay Raut and senior leaders of other allies. Apart from this, the official stand of the party was made public only after discussions with party chief Sharad Pawar and other senior leaders.
He said that in recent times many kinds of speculations and confusion were being spread regarding delimitation. This press conference was organized to remove these misconceptions.
What did Amit Shah say?
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said in the Lok Sabha that the proposed delimitation process would not cause any harm to the states of South India. He had told that if the model of 50 percent increase in Lok Sabha seats is implemented, then the number of current 543 seats can increase to 816. This will also increase the representation of the states of South India and the number of MPs there will increase from 129 to approximately 195.
However, Supriya Sule says that until this provision becomes an official part of the bill, a decision of support or opposition cannot be taken only on the basis of public statements.
