Cloud AI Chat Leaked On Google Search: In today’s times, we share many of our personal and professional matters with Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbots. Be it office work, legal advice or personal life problems, AI has become our closest companion. But did you know that the AI you consider your ‘confidant’ can reveal your confidential information to the world? Recently, something similar happened with Anthropic’s popular Cloud AI, which has sparked a big debate about privacy.
How did your personal information reach Google search?
According to reports, many of users’ private conversations with Cloud AI suddenly started appearing in Google search results. The issue came to light when some users on Reddit noticed that searching for certain keywords on Google was bringing up a list of shared cloud chats and “cloud artifacts.”
Surprisingly, these leaked chats not only contained normal conversations, but also exposed users’ sensitive details, crypto wallet information, and personal data. As news spread, the tech world was shaken, and users feared for their privacy.
Anthropic blames ‘Share Link’!
When questions arose about this data leak, Anthropic, the company that created Cloud, clarified that this was not a technical glitch or a hacking of their system. According to the company, the problem was caused by Cloud’s “Share” feature.
In fact, Cloud has a feature that allows users to create a link to their chat and share it with others. Anthropic says that they themselves did not index any chat on Google, but when a user creates a “public share link,” that link can be archived by a third-party service, from where search engines like Google crawl it and show it in search results. Simply put, the company has washed its hands off the responsibility and put it on the way users share it.
Chat is still on Google
Following the controversy, Anthropic has taken action. The company claims to have fixed the issue and removed such links from Google Search. However, experts say that people who already have those old links can still access those chats. This means that the privacy threat has not been completely averted.
Along with Claude, ChatGPT and Grok have also been involved in controversies.
This isn’t the first case of AI privacy breaches. Previously, there were reports of nearly 100,000 chats leaked from the AI chatbot ChatGPT. Similar privacy concerns have been raised with Elon Musk’s Grok AI. Experts believe that no matter how much security AI companies claim, the risk associated with shared chat links always remains.
Never forget these 3 things when using AI
If you use AI in your daily life, then take these precautions to keep yourself safe:
1. Don’t share sensitive data: Never give your password, bank details, crypto keys or highly personal information to AI.
2. Use the share feature wisely: Make a public link to your chat only when absolutely necessary. Remember, once the link is public, it is difficult to completely delete it from the internet.
3. Check privacy settings: From time to time, go to your AI account settings to see what information you have shared and whether there is an option to delete it.
As helpful as AI technology is, it can also be risky. One small mistake could jeopardize your entire digital identity. So, the next time you interact with Cloud or any AI, remember that nothing is completely private on the internet.
