CM Devendra Fadnavis said on the brutality against innocent people in Pune "Government will demand death penalty for the accused"
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday took a strong stance on the case of sexual assault and murder of a minor girl in Pune, saying that the state government will seek death penalty for the accused. He also assured that the case will be heard in a fast track court so that the victim’s family can get justice soon.
Request to appoint special public prosecutor
Describing the incident as extremely condemnable and sad, the Chief Minister said that this crime committed by a 65-year-old man with an innocent girl of about three to four years is going to shock the society. He said that the accused has been arrested by the police and the government will take the matter seriously and request the High Court to appoint a special public prosecutor.
Along with this, Fadnavis appealed to the opposition parties not to do politics on this sensitive issue. He said that making political statements on such incidents is extremely insensitive and increases the pain of the victim’s family.

According to the information, this incident came to light in a village in Pune district, where the accused allegedly lured the girl with food, took her to a hut, sexually assaulted her and later murdered her. After the girl went missing, the family started searching for her, during which the accused was seen with the girl in the CCTV footage. After the incident, there was huge anger in the area. Hundreds of villagers gathered at the police post and the highway at night and demanded strict action against the accused. Police officers reached the spot and pacified the people and assured them of prompt action.
Demand for strict punishment
Pune Rural Superintendent of Police said that a case has been registered against the accused under POCSO and relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code and further investigation is underway. Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) MP Supriya Sule also strongly condemned the incident. Appealing to the people to maintain peace, he said that every possible effort will be made to give the harshest punishment to the culprit.
