Patna. There is great news for the sugarcane farmers of Bihar. The government has taken a big step towards giving impetus to the long-closed sugar industry. Bihar Cabinet has approved the proposal to set up a new sugar mill in Warisaliganj. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has also shared this information.
An investment of more than Rs 500 crore is expected on this sugar mill project to be built in Warisaliganj in Nawada district. After the start of the mill, the facilities for purchasing and processing sugarcane in the surrounding area will increase, due to which farmers can reduce their dependence on other areas for selling their crops.
Farmers of four districts will get benefits
This project is expected to directly benefit the sugarcane farmers of Nawada, Nalanda, Sheikhpura and Jamui. With the availability of sugar mills at the local level, farmers will be able to get market and processing facilities for sugarcane in their own areas.
Apart from this, the establishment of the mill is likely to increase direct and indirect employment opportunities in the area. The proposed investment of more than Rs 500 crore is expected to give impetus to local business.
The land has already been inspected
The process of re-establishing the sugar mill in Warisaliganj was already going on. In April 2026, a team of senior officials of the Sugarcane Industry Department and the local administration had inspected the land marked for the proposed project in Makanpur. During this period, the status and availability of more than 100 acres of land was reviewed.
Now after getting the approval of the Cabinet, the way has been cleared to take forward the sugar mill project in Warisaliganj. This has also given new hope to the farmers of the area.
