CM Vijay’s tension increased as soon as he assumed the chair! The ally party showed its attitude on the very first day, know what is the whole controversy
Loved ones raised questions on the very first day
A big chapter in Tamil Nadu politics began yesterday when TVK Chief Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister. But as soon as he assumed the seat of power, problems started for Vijay. Today was his first day in the office as CM and on the very first day his own allies have expressed their displeasure. This entire controversy has erupted over the order of ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Tamil Thai Valathu’ (Tamil state song). Vijay’s close aide and VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan has termed it a blatant violation of the state’s tradition.
Thirumavalavan gets angry at breaking of tradition
VCK Chief Thirumavalavan has raised sharp questions on playing ‘Vande Mataram’ first during the swearing-in ceremony. He says that there has been an established tradition in the government programs of Tamil Nadu that ‘Tamil Thai Valathu’ is sung first. But the opposite was seen in Vijay’s swearing-in. First ‘Vande Mataram’ was played there, then the national anthem and finally ‘Tamil Thai Valathu’ got the place. Thirumavalavan sarcastically asked whether all this was done at the behest of the Governor or was there any attempt to please him?
debate on ideology
The matter was not limited to just the sequence of songs, Thirumavalavan has also put the ideology of Vijay’s party TVK in the dock. He said that ‘Vande Mataram’ has often been accused of having religious overtones, hence giving it priority over the Tamil state song is a matter of concern. He also made it clear that because of this decision, other allies supporting Vijay are also facing public anger. There is huge resentment among the supporters also. Thirumavalavan directly asked CM Vijay whether ‘Vande Mataram’ will get attention in future too or will the Tamil state song get its old respect back?
Attack on loan figures also
Amidst the political disputes, the tone of the two leaders appeared different on the economic front also. CM Vijay had given a statement that the previous government has left a huge debt of Rs 10 lakh crore on Tamil Nadu and the government treasury is currently empty. Countering this, Thirumavalavan said that fear was being spread among the public only by showing huge debt figures. He argued that debt should always be viewed in proportion to the gross state income (GSDP). According to Thirumavalavan, Tamil Nadu’s debt is still within the limits set by the 15th Finance Commission, so creating fear by citing big numbers is just a political ploy.
