PC: navarashtra
Delhi Police has given permission to Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) to protest at Jantar Mantar. CJP had appealed to its supporters to gather outside the Parliament Street Police Station at 9 am on Saturday morning and demand permission for a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar. The Delhi High Court had earlier refused to hold an urgent hearing on the petition challenging the protest, leaving no legal hurdle for the proposed protest.
The political atmosphere in the National Capital, New Delhi has heated up over the issue of NEET paper leak and alleged irregularities in the education system. Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Deepke, who is leading the protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, reached New Delhi from Boston, USA on Saturday (June 6) morning. In view of their protest, Delhi Police has made tight security arrangements across the city.
Security has been increased outside the official residences of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other Union Ministers. To maintain peace, Central Delhi has been divided into 12 zones, with each zone being in-charge of a DCP-rank officer. More than 1,000 policemen have been deployed in sensitive areas and the police have been instructed to avoid confrontation with the protesters and handle the situation through talks.
Meanwhile, Abhijeet Deepke, while posting on ‘X’ (Twitter), has appealed to his supporters to reach Jantar Mantar with books and the tricolor. “Protest should be done with love and peace, and flowers should be offered to the police as a gesture of sympathy,” he said in his post. On the other hand, the bench of Justice Saurabh Banerjee and Justice Amit Sharma has made it clear that the petition in this case will be heard on time.
Well-known education reformer and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk had also announced that if the Education Minister does not resign by June 5, she will join the protest. Therefore, this protest is likely to intensify further, and the police administration is keeping a close watch on the traffic and law and order in Delhi.
Police have been deployed everywhere at the CJP protest site. Vehicles are being checked. Parking is prohibited anywhere near Jantar Mantar. Traffic police has also been deployed to ensure that there is no obstruction in traffic. NDMC area has been converted into cantonment. Traffic police is patrolling on two wheels. The special thing is that ‘Generation Z’ has also got a lot of support from the elders.
