Day 9 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow marked one of the most successful outings for the Indian contingent as they secured 6 more medals to their tally on July 31, Friday. The day was highlighted by historic gold medals on the judo mat, a double podium finish in the men’s javelin throw, a decathlon bronze, and a flawless session in the boxing ring where ten pugilists secured their places in gold medal bouts.

It was a beautiful day for India in judo, which saw them claim two gold medals and a silver. Asmita Dey defeating Canada’s Heidi Quach in women’s 48kg final to claim the top spot on the podium. In the men’s 60kg event, Harsh Singh earned India’s second judo gold of the day by overcoming Australia’s Joshua Katz in his final bout. Yamini Mourya added to the tally with a silver medal in the women’s 57kg category following her final against England’s Acelya Toprak.
In athletics, Neeraj Chopra missed out on a gold and secured a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw, while Yash Vir Singh joined him on the podium after earning the bronze. In the decathlon, Tejaswin Shankar completed a gruelling ten-event campaign to clinch the bronze medal. Additionally, the Indian mixed 4x400m relay team, comprising Vishal TK, Rajesh Ramesh, Rashdeep Kaur, and Neeru Pathak, successfully advanced to the final from their qualifying heats.
Boxing Dominance and Other Key Results
The Indian boxing squad mounted a dominant semi-final display, with all ten competing boxers winning their respective bouts to advance to the finals and guarantee at least a silver medal. In the women’s division, Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Choudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Choudhary, and Lovlina Borgohain all registered decisive wins. On the men’s side, Jadumani Singh Mandengbam, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal, and Narender Berwal defeated their respective opponents to ensure a perfect win record for the team on the day.
In lawn bowls, India picked up wins in the sectional-play stage. The men’s pairs combination of Dinesh Kumar and Navneet Singh defeated the Falkland Islands, while Nayanmoni Saikia registered a victory over Zambia’s Mildred Mkandawire in the women’s singles event. In track cycling, Dinesh Kumar and Harshveer Singh exited during the qualification phase of the men’s 4000m individual pursuit, and Ronaldo Singh, David Beckham, and Jemsh Singh were unable to progress past their initial keirin heats.
