Commonwealth Games 2026: India hadn’t won a gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games before July 31, 2026. This long wait was ended by Asmita Dey winning the gold medal in the women’s 48 kg judo category. Shortly after, Harsh Singh also won the gold medal in the men’s 60 kg judo category. Delhi’s Harsh Singh defeated Australia’s Joshua Katz in a one-sided final. With this, he has also etched his name in history.
Harsh Singh did wonders in the final
In the final, Harsh Singh faced Australia’s Joshua Katz, who was aggressive from the very first second. This forced Katz to defend. However, this plan didn’t work for him at all. In the end, Harsh Singh won the match 10-0. With this, Harsh became the second Indian and the first male player to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
He had previously defeated fellow Australian Pedro Carlos Antun Neto in the semifinals. Harsha also turned the contest into a one-sided affair. Harsha defeated Chikondi Kathevera in the round of 16. He then defeated Alain Monthuel in the quarterfinals to secure a spot in the semifinals.

India has now won its fifth gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, two of which came from judo alone.
