Commonwealth Games 2026: India’s overall medals tally with Gloir Singh and Harjandar Kaur taking silver to 12

India continued its good performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 by winning two more silver medals. Gloir Singh in athletics and Harjandar Kaur in weight lifting won silver medals, taking India’s total medal tally to 12. Apart from this, three Indian boxers have ensured at least bronze medals by reaching the semi-finals in boxing.

India’s total medal tally reaches 12

Gloir Singh made history by winning the silver medal in men’s 10,000 meters race. In the women’s 69 kg weight lifting competition, Harjandar Kaur won the silver medal by securing second position with personal best performance.

Despite winning two new silver medals, India has slipped to ninth position in the medals table. Australia continues to hold the first position with the most gold medals.

Gloir Singh became the first Indian to win a medal in 10,000 meters.

27-year-old Gloir Singh became the first Indian athlete to win a silver medal in the men’s 10,000 meters race in the history of the Commonwealth Games. Till the last stage of the race, he was at fourth position, however, in the last lap, he increased his speed and left his rivals behind and took the second position.

Journey from preparation to join Indian Army to international level

Gwalior Singh, who hails from Sarsa village of Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh, is a Deputy Commander in the Indian Army. He initially started running to prepare for army recruitment. After joining the Grenadiers Regiment in 2018, he took up athletics seriously and through continuous hard work reached the international level.

Harjandar Kaur wins silver medal with personal best performance

In the women’s 69 kg weight lifting competition, Harjandar Kaur won the silver medal with a total lift of 227 kg. He set a personal best performance record by lifting 101 kg in the downs, while he secured the second position in the clean and jerk by lifting 126 kg. After winning the title, he thanked the fans with folded hands. This is his second consecutive title at the Commonwealth Games.

Harjandar Kaur, who hails from Mahish village near Nabcha in Punjab, started her sports journey not with weight lifting but with squatting and rope pulling. Seeing his physical ability and strength, his coach advised him to take up weight lifting. The physical strength gained during rural life in the fields and during domestic work helped them to progress in this sport. After winning the bronze medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, he has now also won the silver medal in his name.

India’s seventh title in weight lifting

Harjandar Kaur’s silver medal is India’s seventh medal in weight lifting. Before this, Indian players have won gold, silver and bronze medals in different weight categories. Especially the players of Manipur have established their strong identity in weight lifting by winning many important medals for India.

In the women’s competition, Preeti Poor and Priya Ghanghas made it to the semi-finals by winning their respective quarter-final matches. In the men’s competition, Jadumni also achieved success and made it to the last four players.

According to the rules of the Commonwealth Games, all players who reach the semi-finals in boxing are entitled to at least a bronze medal. Therefore, India’s three medals are already assured. Now these three players are still in the race for the gold medal.

Performance of other Indian players

In athletics, Vishal T K qualified for the semi-finals by finishing second in his heat in the men’s 400 meters race, while Rajish Ramish failed to make it to the semi-finals.

In swimming, Shri Hari Natraj reached the semi-finals of men’s 100m backstroke, while Sajan Prakash could not make it to the next stage in the 50m butterfly event.

In para swimming, Karthik Bodigiina and Ali Imam qualified for the final of men’s 50m freestyle S-13 category.

Missed out on winning the beauty queen award

In the women’s 63 kg weight lifting competition, Naomi Devi secured fifth position in the snatch, but all three of her attempts in the clean and jerk failed, due to which she was eliminated from the competition.

India’s position in the medals table

India has so far won a total of 12 medals including two gold medals. Due to better performance of other countries, India has come to ninth position in the table of titles. Australia continues to hold the first position with the most gold medals. India is hopeful of more medals in the coming days from boxing, athletics, para swimming and other competitions.
