Commonwealth Games 2026 day 1: Indians in action on July 23: Schedule, timings

The much-awaited 2026 Commonwealth Games are finally here, with the Day 1 action beginning on July 23 at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, Scotland.

The opening group-stage matches in the women’s pairs and men’s singles lawn bowls events will get underway on Thursday, before the Opening Ceremony takes place at the OVO Hydro later in the evening.

It will be the first Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony to be staged entirely indoors. Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall will headline the ceremony, alongside performances by Callum Beattie, Nina Nesbitt, Nathan Evans and Saint Phnx.

India is sending a 126-member athlete contingent, competing across 13 disciplines, including five para disciplines. The squad features several star names, including Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain.

While competition begins on Thursday, India’s medal campaign starts on July 24 with the Para Powerlifting lightweight finals, where Parmjeet Kumar, Ashok Malik, Suman Devi and Jaspreet Kaur will be in contention.
