New Delhi: The controversy that started over Vande Mataram has now reached the police. A complaint has been lodged with Delhi Police against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. The complaint alleges that the singing of 'Vande Mataram' was allegedly disrupted during a program organized at the AICC headquarters on the occasion of Independence Day. The complainant has demanded registration of FIR against both the leaders.
What is the whole matter?
Actually, 'Vande Mataram' was sung during the Independence Day celebrations of Congress. Regarding this program, BJP accused senior Congress leaders of alleged disrespect towards the national anthem.
BJP claimed that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge did not show proper respect during 'Vande Mataram' at the event. After this the matter became an issue of political debate.
What was alleged in the complaint?
A complaint has been given to Delhi Police on behalf of Supreme Court lawyer Shubh Sharma. In this, action has been demanded against Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. The complainant says that the rules related to respect for 'Vande Mataram' should be followed and allegedly obstructing its singing in a public program is a serious matter.
The complainant also said that the public behavior of senior leaders has a wider impact on the society. Therefore, the matter should be investigated and appropriate legal action should be taken.
Congress called the allegations wrong
Whereas Congress has rejected BJP's allegations. The party said that no attempt was made to stop the singing of the full version of 'Vande Mataram'. According to Congress, during the program Sonia Gandhi was only asking for a chair for Mallikarjun Kharge because he was standing for a long time. The party has termed the allegations made on this basis as wrong.
Political disputes likely to increase
The allegations and counter-allegations between BJP and Congress regarding Vande Mataram have intensified. Now after the complaint is registered with Delhi Police, this dispute may increase further.
