Congress supports Vijay’s party TVK, preparations for government formation
Knews Desk– After the results of Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, a big change has been seen in the politics of the state. Actor-turned-politician Joseph Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has performed brilliantly and secured the maximum of 108 seats in the 234-seat assembly. However, the party fell short of the 118 seats required for majority.
These results have given a big blow to the traditional Dravidian politics of the state. The ruling DMK suffered a huge loss and got only about 59 seats, while the AIADMK was reduced to about 47 seats. In this way, for the first time a major political upheaval has been seen in the politics of Tamil Nadu.
Amid efforts to form the government, Congress has decided to extend “support with conditions” to TVK. Congress leaders say their support is aimed at forming a stable and secular government in the state. After this support, TVK’s tally has reached 113 seats, bringing it very close to majority.
According to sources, continuous talks are going on between Congress and TVK and the terms of the alliance are being discussed. Along with this, efforts are also being made to garner support from smaller parties like CPI(M), CPI and VCK, so that the majority mark can be easily crossed. It is being told that soon Joseph Vijay can meet the Governor and stake claim to form the government. At the same time, discussions have also intensified regarding the preparations for the swearing-in ceremony in Chennai. Now it will be seen from the Governor’s side whether TVK has sufficient support or not, and only then the further process will be decided.
This entire incident has sparked a new debate in Tamil Nadu politics. Supporters are calling it a “historic mandate”, while opponents are calling it a compulsion of the alliance. If TVK succeeds in forming the government, it will become a major political example of the party reaching power in its very first electoral term.
