Political tensions escalated in Nalgonda, Telangana, when a group of Congress workers allegedly attacked the residence of BJP District President Nagam Varsith Reddy, vandalising property and prompting clashes between supporters of both parties.
The incident at Varsith Reddy’s home followed an earlier attack on Monday, when BJP workers reportedly targeted the Congress party office of Telangana Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.
In response to the violence, police deployed personnel in strength at both the minister’s camp office and the BJP district office to deter further conflict. Varsith Reddy and several BJP workers sought refuge in the party office during the unrest.
Authorities have not yet received formal complaints from either side concerning the incidents, and further details are awaited.
The disturbances originated after Youth Congress protesters in Hyderabad threw black paint at the rear gate of the BJP state office. Subsequently, BJP members led by Varsith Reddy burnt an effigy of Minister Venkat Reddy at his former camp office in Srinagar Colony and tore a flex banner at the office entrance.
Security personnel closed the main gate as BJP members attempted to enter the premises. The BJP group allegedly threw eggs and tomatoes at the office before leaving the scene prior to police arrival.
Following news of these events, Congress workers assembled in large numbers at the minister’s camp office at Clock Tower Centre. Congress MLC Kethavath Shankar Naik, who visited the site, condemned the BJP’s actions and stated that the premises were rented by the minister for the convenience of party workers.
Later, Congress workers allegedly attacked Varsith Reddy’s residence in Himagiri Colony on Devarakonda Road, ransacking furniture. They also tried to attack the BJP office near the RTC bus stand, but the gates were locked from inside, preventing entry.
