New Delhi. Congress on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Uttar Pradesh government and the BJP government at the Center over the case of theft of offerings in the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Congress general secretary and in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh alleged that responsible people like former Ram Mandir Trust general secretary Champat Rai were being protected in the investigation. He also raised questions on the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this matter and said that the country should get an answer as to when the accountability for theft of offerings will be decided.
Congress raised questions citing 105 incidents
Jairam Ramesh, in a post on social media platform 'X', claimed that 105 incidents of theft of offerings in Ram temple were caught on CCTV. He raised the question that despite such a large number of incidents, why the investigation is limited to only small accused. The Congress leader asked whether the aim of the investigation was only to catch those involved in stealing offerings or to also fix accountability of those under whose supervision and protection the incidents allegedly took place.
Question regarding Champat Rai and Anil Mishra
Ramesh questioned why Champat Rai and Anil Mishra were not accused and how were they made witnesses? He said that if questions of protection or negligence are being raised on the people who are in charge of the system, then why did the investigation not reach them. Congress also raised questions as to how despite 105 incidents, there could be only eight accused.
Question on 21 day delay in FIR from June 4 to June 25
The Congress General Secretary also made the issue of the delay in registering the FIR. He said that on June 4, the video related to the stolen amount reached Champat Rai, on June 5 the CCTV footage was viewed and on June 25, the FIR was registered. Ramesh asked why the entire truth of the delay of these 21 days was not put before the country.
Congress also surrounded the recovery of Rs 79.85 lakh
Jairam Ramesh raised the question that despite 105 incidents of theft coming to light, why efforts are being made to close the case after only Rs 79.85 lakh has been recovered. He said that when the offering had come in the name of Lord Ram, then it is necessary to find out how much of the total offering was stolen. Congress questioned why there was a hurry to end the investigation without knowing the full amount.
Demand for investigation under the supervision of Supreme Court
Congress once again reiterated its demand for an independent, impartial and transparent investigation into this matter under the supervision of the Supreme Court. The party says that only through such investigation the truth of the entire matter can be revealed and responsibility can be fixed.
PM Modi's silence also targeted
Jairam Ramesh also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked when will he break his silence on this matter related to the faith of the countrymen. The Congress leader alleged that the investigation was being prevented from reaching the most responsible people. Congress said that it has many questions regarding the SIT investigation in the Ram Temple offering theft case and their answers should come out. The party reiterated that only through a fair and independent investigation will it be clear who is actually responsible for the incidents of theft.
