Controversy over women’s reservation, Priyanka Gandhi’s attack – BJP’s aim was not to bill but to do politics of delimitation.

digital desk- After the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament, the turmoil in the country’s politics has intensified. While on one hand the ruling party is accusing the opposition of being anti-women, on the other hand the opposition is calling it a well-thought-out strategy of the government. Meanwhile, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has launched a scathing attack on the central government, calling the entire incident a “victory for democracy and the Constitution”. In the press conference held on Saturday (April 18), Priyanka Gandhi said that the government had made a political move in the name of women’s reservation. According to her, this was not actually an issue of women’s rights, but a big game related to delimitation. “What happened yesterday is a victory for democracy. It is a victory for the country and a victory for the unity of the opposition,” he said.

The government knew earlier that the bill would not be passed – Priyanka Gandhi

Priyanka Gandhi alleged that the government already knew that this bill would not be passed, yet it was introduced as a strategy. He said that if the bill had been passed, the government would have called itself the messiah of women and if not, it would have tried to term the opposition as anti-women. According to him, it was a complete conspiracy, the aim of which was to take political advantage. He also said that the central government wanted to change the political structure of the country through delimitation. According to Priyanka, the government wanted to do such a delimitation in which it would not have to depend on the caste census data and seats could be determined arbitrarily. He clearly said that the opposition could not support any such effort.

It is not right to do politics in the name of women- Priyanka Gandhi

Questioning the intentions of the government, the Congress MP said that it is not right to do politics in the name of women. He said, “The government has used women for power. One should not try to mislead women. The women of the country are intelligent and are seeing everything.” He further targeted the Narendra Modi government and said that BJP is trying to show itself as a women’s well-wisher, but its history tells a different story. Referring to the incidents of Unnao, Hathras, women players and Manipur, he said that the government’s sensitivity was not visible in these matters.

Example given by Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Priyanka Gandhi also said that if it was really in the interest of women, the government could have implemented 33 percent reservation in limited seats only by adopting the already existing model. Citing the example of the era of former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said that during delimitation, the number of seats was kept constant, so that the unity and balance of the country was maintained. It is noteworthy that on Friday (April 17), voting took place in the Lok Sabha on the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill after 21 hours of discussion. A total of 528 MPs cast their votes, of which 298 were in favor and 230 against. However, the bill failed by 54 votes due to the requirement of two-thirds majority i.e. 352 votes.
