Lucknow. Questions continue to be raised regarding corruption in the Jal Jeevan Mission Scheme. Many water tanks built under this scheme in Uttar Pradesh have collapsed, while complaints of poor construction continue to be received at many places. Exposed News continuously exposes the corruption in Jal Jeevan Mission. When corruption is exposed, pressure is also put on the authorities to expose it. Not only this, a defamation case was also filed against the editor of Purdafaash. Now the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has entered this corruption case of Jal Jeevan Mission. ED has sought detailed information from Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Rural). ED has asked for complete information till September 14.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sought detailed information from Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Rural) regarding matters related to water tanks. ED's Lucknow zonal office has sent a letter to the Managing Director of Jal Nigam on 27 August 2026, directing him to provide information regarding related matters by 14 September 2026.
ED has sought this information under Section 54 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA). ED has sought details of all such tanks constructed under Jal Jeevan Mission since the year 2019, which collapsed, burst, leaked, crooked, caved in, declared unsafe, demolished or rebuilt during or after construction. Besides, the reason for damage to the tank has also been sought in each case.
ED asked for key documents of these works
. Attested copies of original administrative approval and financial approval.
. Tender Notification, DPR and Approved Structural Design/Drawings.
. Name, address and registration details of the contractor firm receiving the work.
. Final work order amount, contract period and date of actual completion.
. Structural Safety Certificate, soil test and mix design report before construction of the tank.
. Third Party Inspection (TPI) reports and quality audit records.
. Material testing report of cement, aggregate and rebar etc.
. RA bills and final bills and bank account statements relating to payments made to contractors, sub-contractors and TPI agency.
. Entries and photographs of construction/progress/completion uploaded on JJM-IMIS portal.
. Names and designations of officers who check structural strength before releasing payment.
. Administrative action taken against responsible engineers, TPI agencies or contractors. . FIR and investigation/inquiry report, if any, related to the tank collapse.
. Estimated total financial loss and recovery action.
. Apart from this, ED has also asked to provide related data in the prescribed format of Annexure-A attached with the letter.

ED has clarified in its letter that this information has been sought under Section 54 of PMLA, 2002 and has been asked to provide it by September 14, 2026, calling it most urgent. However, the letter has not declared any person or institution guilty. This document reflects the action taken by ED to gather information and records.
