Cricket Canada plans detailed roadmap to overturn ICC’s suspension:

Read, Digital Desk : Cricket Canada, the governing body of cricket in the country, have drafted a plan that could have its ICC suspension overturned.Cricket Canada was banned from the sport following issues with governance, financial controls and procedures following a routine review of compliance by the ICC. The organization then quickly moved to submit a full corrective action plan in a bid to get their suspended associate membership back quickly. The organization has also submitted a full plan containing both short and long-term solutions to put the organization back into good standings which includes a full review of governance and finances and the introduction of better financial and governance controls. The present administration led by board president Arvinder Khosa and a newly-elected board of nine directors argued that many of the ICC issues were legacy issues pre-dating the April/May elections. “The majority of the governance and financial control concerns raised by the ICC relate to historical practices and decisions made prior to the April/May elections. The new board has inherited these legacy issues and is now responsible for implementing corrective and preventive reforms. The ICC has been informed that the new board is committed to full compliance and has already begun implementing structural and governance reforms,” Bhavjit Jauhar the COO of the board told ESPNcricinfo. As part of its action plan to try and win back the trust of the ICC, they have now put in place a nine-member independent committee chaired by lawyer Dasha Peregoudova, which will “analyze the concerns raised by the ICC” and will provide an interim report in two weeks and a final report in 45 days. Cricket Canada has stated that “the committee will be granted unfettered access to all Cricket Canada financial records, personnel and documentation.”Cricket Canada to speak with ICC, Cricket AustraliaAlso in response to its ban, Cricket Canada will now speak to the ICC’s normalisation committee and a board which contains the chairman of Cricket Australia, Mike Baird and the vice chairman of the ICC, Imran Khwaja as it attempts to gain its membership status back. The move comes following a tumultuous period for Cricket Canada, where former CEO Salman Khan was recently appointed and removed from his role. He has faced criticism after allegedly not disclosing previous charges to the ICC and has since been arrested and charged by Calgary Police on theft and fraud charges which he denies.
