Former captain Virat Kohli will not be a part of this series due to hamstring injury. 37-year-old Kohli had performed brilliantly with the bat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
Sources having knowledge of the entire matter confirmed this to news agency PTI. The first match of the ODI series between India and Afghanistan is to be played on June 14 in Dharamshala. Then the second ODI is scheduled on 17th June in Lucknow and the third ODI is scheduled on 20th June in Chennai.
Injury in IPL final!
Virat Kohli, who led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to the second consecutive title, looked uncomfortable during the final. Kohli once again showed his class in the final of IPL 2026. He scored unbeaten 75 runs on 42 balls and made RCB the champion for the second consecutive time by winning by five wickets over Gujarat Titans (GT).
During the last overs, Kohli was seen feeling discomfort while running, but he did not leave the field and returned after leading the team to victory. The medical examination conducted after the final revealed that Kohli was suffering from injury. Official information has not been given yet regarding the seriousness of the injury, but due to this he has had to be ruled out of the ODI series against Afghanistan.
This injury has come at a time when Virat Kohli was in great form. In IPL 2026, he scored 675 runs in 16 matches. During this period his average was 56.25 and strike rate was 165.85. He played an important role in the success of RCB with his batting throughout the season.
