The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured a stunning 5-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2026 game played at Chennai.
Chennai Super Kings has chased a 200+ run target for the first time since 2018. With this win, they move to the 5th position of the IPL 2026 points table.
After being invited to bat first, Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis opened the innings while Akeal Hosein opened the bowling attack.
Inglis put up an aggressive start, scoring a 17-ball fifty before the dismissal of Marsh for 10 runs. He got dismissed on a length delivery where the ball goes in the air towards long on, and Brevis took an easy catch.
With Pooran and Josh Inglis at crease, Lucknow super Giants scored 91 runs in the powerplay. Nicholas Pooran got dismissed on a outside off delivey where the ball went towards air in midwicket where Sarfaraz Khan picked the catch.
However, Jamie Overton picked two wickets in a single over. He dismissed inform Josh Inglis and Rishabh Pant in the 10th over as CSK gained momentum in the game for the first time.
Inglis got dismissed on back of a lengthy delivery where the batter attempted the paddle shot and Sanju Samson picked a solid catch behind the wickets. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant got bowled out as LSG lost four wickets for 115 runs.

With Shahbaz Ahmed’s six in the final delivey, LSG posted 203 runs in their 20 over innings. Shahbaz Ahmed remained unbeaten with 43* which played a crucial role in cross 200 run mark in the sunday clash.

Chasing 204 runs, Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad opened the innings while Mohammed Shami opened the bowling attack.
However, they couldn’t convert the start as Sanju Samson got dismissed for 28 runs. He got bowled out as the ball crashes the middle stump.
Urvil Patel who came to bat at No.3 went on a aggressive mode, dealt with only sixes as CSK scored 97 runs in the powerplay.
He smashed the fastest fifty and equalled the record with Yashasvi Jaiswal who also smashed fifty in 13 balls.
He went on to scored 65 runs off 22 deliveries which included 2 fours and 8 sixes. However, Shahbaz Ahmed bagged the wicket of Urvil Patel after he hit the outside off delivery in the deep extra cover and Avesh Khan picked the catch.
Rutuaj Gaikwad lost his wicket for Shahbaz Ahmed for 42 runs while, Dewald Brevis lost his wicket to Digvesh Rathi for 10 runs.
With Avesh Khan dismissing Kartik Sharma for 20 runs, Shivam Dube and Prashant Veer completed the chase in the finals over.
Chennai Super Kings will meet LSG on a reverse fixture on May 15 at Lucknow.
