Former Chennai Super Kings star player Matthew Hayden has suggested the name of Dinesh Karthik for the new head coach of the team. After the departure of Stephen Fleming, Chennai Super Kings is looking for a new coach. Hayden believes that Dinesh Karthik can be a good choice for this responsibility. His experience of Indian cricket and strong connection with Tamil Nadu can be beneficial for the team.
Dinesh Karthik is currently the batting coach and mentor of Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has been a part of both the IPL title seasons of the team. Karthik gets a lot of respect in the Bangalore team, so it will not be easy to bring him from there to Chennai. However, Hayden believes that Karthik has gained good coaching experience by working with successful coaches like Andy Flower.
Matthew Hayden called Karthik a good option
Speaking on the Wisden Cricket Podcast, Matthew Hayden said; “I think Dinesh Karthik will be a very good option for Chennai Super Kings.” He also said that Karthik being from Tamil Nadu was important. Hayden said; “Having a local Tamil boy is an important thing. It is not mandatory, but Chennai Super Kings has always been associated with Tamil Nadu cricket. So a local association could be a good next step for the team.”
Coordination with MS Dhoni is also important
Matthew Hayden also said that MS Dhoni’s influence in Chennai Super Kings is still very strong. In such a situation, it will be necessary for the new coach to build a good rapport with Dhoni. Dinesh Karthik has shared the dressing room with Dhoni while playing for India, so both of them already have a good cricket rapport. Hayden also said that local players can help in reducing the language and communication barriers between foreign coaches and young players. Chennai Super Kings has always included many players from outside Tamil Nadu in the team.
