Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Indian athletes who returned after performing brilliantly at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 at his residence in New Delhi on Sunday, August 9. During this, he had a long conversation with the athletes and congratulated them on their achievements. PM Modi has also shared the video of the meeting on his Instagram handle. In the video, many Indian athletes including gold medal winning boxer Sakshi Chaudhary are seen with the Prime Minister. While sharing the video, PM Modi wrote, ‘Jo khelega, vo khilega. Always Cheer4Bharat.’

Sakshi Chaudhary praised PM Modi

In the video, Commonwealth gold medalist boxer Sakshi Chaudhary said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Commonwealth gold medalists. She said that all the players were very happy to meet the PM and that he was very easygoing and polite. Sakshi Chaudhary then requested Prime Minister Modi to say something. Encouraging the players, PM Modi said, “Whoever plays will flourish.” He then said, “Always Cheer4Bharat” and chanted “Bharat Mata ki Jai” along with the players.

India won 39 medals

Indian athletes performed brilliantly at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. India won a total of 39 medals , including 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze. India finished fourth in the medal tally, with Australia topping the medal tally with 90 medals. Indian athletes performed brilliantly in many sports, bringing pride to the country.

India’s strong performance in boxing

Indian boxers performed particularly well at the Commonwealth Games. India won a total of 10 medals in boxing, including seven gold and three silver. This performance is being considered one of the country’s most successful campaigns at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. The Prime Minister’s meeting with the athletes following their achievement also boosted their morale.
