India’s campaign in the Para-Events at the 2026 Commonwealth Games concluded with its best-ever performance, winning a total of seven medals: three gold, two silver, and two bronze.
Jhandu Kumar was the Indian to open the medal tally for the country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. In a two-group competition, Jhandu topped Group B with a best result of 130.9. He easily edged out Uganda’s Dennis Mbazira (114.1) and Australia’s Ben Wright (110.9) to secure a medal spot.
However, in the combined standings, Nigeria’s Riluwan Idris won the gold medal with the best overall lift of 132.8. England’s Matthew Harding took the silver with 131.0. Jhandu’s lift of 130.9 was enough to secure the bronze medal. He finished just 0.1 seconds behind Harding in a close contest for the silver medal.
In addition, two Indian athletes finished on the podium in three events: the women’s shot put F57, the men’s shot put F57, and the men’s 100m F47.
The country won a gold and a bronze medal in the women’s shot put F57. Para-athlete Sharmila Dhankhar secured first place with a best throw of 9.81m in the final. Shilpa Kanchugarkoppalu Shyla won the bronze with a best effort of 7.26m. Ghana’s Jinabu Isah won the silver medal with a best effort of 8.65m.
Following this, India won a gold and a silver medal in the men’s 100m T47 race. Dilip Mahadu Gavit won the gold medal with a time of 10.71 seconds, while Mohammed Basil Morsinganakath took the silver with a time of 10.83 seconds. England’s Kevin Santos took the bronze in this event (10.85 seconds).
India also achieved a double podium finish in the men’s shot put F57, winning silver and gold. Soman Rana won the country’s first gold medal in the men’s shot put F57 event with a winning throw of 13.40 meters.
Shubham Juyal secured the silver medal with a throw of 13.28 meters in his last attempt. Cameroon’s Cedric Idriss Lekezo Ajmadji won the bronze medal with a best effort of 12.57 meters.
