‘Dadi Ki Shaadi’ Review: Neetu Kapoor and Kapil Sharma’s emotional story will touch your heart

‘Grandma’s Wedding’ Review:In Bollywood, films based on family relationships and emotions have always been close to the hearts of the audience. In this series, director Ashish R Mohan’s film ‘Dadi Ki Shaadi’ has brought a story which presents the loneliness of the elderly, their feelings and the need for a second innings on the big screen in a very sensitive manner.

This film, released in theaters on May 8, is not limited to just entertainment, but also brings to the fore that aspect of society which is often not discussed openly. The special feature of the film is the appearance of three generations of the Kapoor family together on screen and also the acting debut of Riddhima Kapoor Sahni.

Grandma’s Wedding: Story

The story of the film begins in the beautiful city of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, where Vimala Ahuja (Neetu Kapoor) is living alone in her big bungalow. The big twist in the story comes when Vimala announces her remarriage on social media.

His decision is no less than a shock for the family. Son Jeevan (Deepak Dutta), Nagendra (Jitendra Hooda) and daughter Sunaina (Riddhima Kapoor Sahni) are shocked by this news.

Meanwhile, preparations are going on for the engagement of Vimala’s granddaughter Kanika (Sadia Khatib) and Tony Kalra (Kapil Sharma). Tony’s family is a traditional Punjabi family of Delhi, which is involved in the sweets business.

As soon as the news of Vimala’s marriage spreads, there is a stir in both the families. The engagement is on the verge of breaking and the entire family reaches Shimla to woo Vimla. This is where retired Colonel Theeran Devarajan (R. Sarathkumar) enters the story, who becomes Vimala’s new life partner.

Direction and Screenplay

Director Ashish R Mohan has presented a very sensitive subject with simplicity. Issues like remarriage of the elderly have been shown in a simple manner without giving heavy speeches.

The first part of the film is quite entertaining and lively. The conflict between the hustle and bustle of the Punjabi family and the calm-natured South Indian Colonel gives the audience a balanced experience of laughter and emotions.

However, due to the length of the film being about two and a half hours, the story feels a little slow in the second part. Many emotional scenes feel repetitive, but the director has maintained the truth and emotional balance of the story.

The film raises an important question that does a person lose his need for a companion as he grows older? The story gives the message that the elderly need not only the care of the family but also emotional support.
