‘Darling I love you… let’s go to sleep’, Trump’s crude joke on Ilhan Omar, said such a big thing publicly
Florida: US President Donald Trump, famous for his outspoken and often controversial statements, is once again in the news. This time his target was Democratic Party’s firebrand leader Ilhan Omar. Addressing a rally in ‘The Villages’ in Florida, Trump not only attacked Omar’s political stature but also took a very sharp and personal dig at her personal life and her native country Somalia. This style of Trump has once again brought American politics to a boil.
Trump’s controversial statement on personal life
Donald Trump called Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar a ‘lying woman’. Not only this, Trump also did not shy away from commenting on their personal relationships. Reviving the old and controversial allegations against Umar of marrying his brother, he said, “I believe that she has married her brother, which is completely illegal. Although they are a lovely couple, it is illegal.” Trump continued by quipping, “Darling, I love you so much. Goodnight, brother. Let’s go to sleep. Isn’t that disgusting?”
Stinging things said about Somalia
While targeting Ilhan Omar, Trump also launched a scathing attack on her birthplace Somalia. He said sarcastically that Somalia is a “beautiful” place where there is no government, no army and no system. Trump alleged that there is only one thing that is most prevalent in Somalia and that is crime. “There are no police there, people just run around and shoot at each other. It’s a horrible and dirty place,” he said.
“Don’t teach us how to run the country.”
Trump raised questions on Omar’s background and said that she is coming from another country and preaching to America. “Ilhan Omar comes here from Somalia and tells us how to run America. She says the Constitution gives her certain rights and she demands those rights,” he fumed. This statement of Trump is much discussed among those supporters who take a strict stance against immigrants, while human rights activists are calling it a racist comment.
