Dead body of Delhi University professor found in her flat, marks of struggle found on her body

New Delhi: A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in the capital Delhi. An assistant professor of Delhi University was found dead in her own flat, after which there was a sensation in the area. Initial investigation has raised suspicion of murder. The deceased has been identified as Debosmita Paul, 42, who was an assistant professor in the English department of Shivaji College, Delhi University.

Debosmita Paul lived alone in Satyam Apartment in Vasundhara Enclave in East Delhi, while her parents live in a nearby area. According to the police, at around 2:35 pm on Thursday, his sister Devrati Paul called PCR at New Ashok Nagar police station and informed about the incident. He told that efforts were being made to contact the sister for a long time, but no response was being received.

Sister broke the lock of the flat

Due to lack of continuous contact, Devrati Paul herself reached the apartment. There he saw that the flat was locked from outside. When the situation seemed suspicious, he got the lock broken and when he went inside, he saw that his sister was lying dead. As soon as the information was received, the police team reached the spot and started investigation. Officials found that the professor had serious injury marks on his head. In the initial investigation, it is believed that he was attacked with some heavy and hard object.

During investigation, the police also found injury marks on the hands of the deceased. Officials believe that he may have tried to save himself during the attack. Some injuries have also been found, due to which the possibility of use of any sharp object is not being ruled out. The forensic team has collected evidence from the spot and efforts are being made to identify the weapon used in the murder.

Debosmita Paul was a well-known teacher of English literature. His academic interests were in subjects like Partition Studies, Indian Literature, Post-Colonial Literature and Translation Studies. He completed his PhD and MPhil from Jamia Millia Islamia. Apart from this, he obtained postgraduate degree from Barkatullah University and bachelor’s degree from Maharaja Agrasen College. He was considered well known in the field of teaching and research.

Police engaged in investigation from many angles

At present the police is busy finding the reason behind the murder. Initial investigation has not found any clear indication of robbery, as the jewelery and other belongings of the deceased were found safe. However, the police are not completely ruling out this possibility. The investigators are also probing aspects related to the personal and professional life of the deceased. According to sources, she was also going through a family legal matter, regarding which some documents and information are being scrutinized.

The police have sent the body to the hospital for post-mortem. Officials say that after the report comes, more clear information will be available regarding the exact cause of death and the nature of the attack. In this case, a case of murder has been registered in New Ashok Nagar police station and the police is carrying forward the investigation keeping various aspects in mind.
