Deadline for voter list revision extended in Delhi, know when the draft and final voter list will come.

The Election Commission has extended the deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program of the ongoing voter list in Delhi. Now the final voter list in the capital will be published on October 19. Earlier this process was to be completed as per the pre-determined schedule. The Election Commission of India, in a letter sent to the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi, said that the draft of the voter list will now be published on August 17 instead of August 5. At the same time, the process of door-to-door verification will also continue till August 8 instead of July 29. With this decision, the duration of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program in Delhi has been extended by 10 days. Earlier in Haryana also the deadline for the same process was extended by 10 days.

The process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter list in Delhi started from June 30. Under this, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were given the responsibility of going door-to-door to verify the voters, distribute the necessary forms and collect them back. Earlier this process was to be completed by July 29. However, the Election Commission has now extended its deadline to August 8. The Commission says that the purpose of this decision is to give adequate opportunity to those eligible citizens whose names have not yet been included in the voter list or whose verification is pending. Under the revised program, booth level officers will now do door-to-door verification work till August 8.

According to the revised schedule of the Election Commission, the work of reorganization (rationalization) of polling stations will also be completed by August 8. After this, the preliminary draft (draft roll) of the voter list will be published on 17 August 2026. Earlier this list was to be released on August 5. After the release of the draft voter list, if any person wants to add, delete or make any kind of correction in his name in the voter list, then he will be able to register his claims and objections between August 17 and September 16. Earlier the time for this was fixed from 5th August to 4th September. The Election Commission said that the election officials have been given time from August 17 to October 15 to investigate and dispose of all the claims and objections received during this period. After this, the final voter list of Delhi will be published on 19 October 2026 incorporating all the necessary amendments.

Delhi’s SIR campaign is part of the third phase

According to the Election Commission, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign going on in Delhi is part of the third phase of the process being conducted across the country. This phase was started on 14 May. After the completion of the third phase, the SIR process will be completed in most of the states and union territories of the country except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The Election Commission says that this special campaign is being run with the aim of making the voter list more accurate and updated. The Commission has also indicated that in the past, there have been changes in the timelines of SIR programs due to various administrative and practical reasons and the program is amended as and when required.

30,907 dead and over 1.20 lakh shifted voters found during SIR

The distribution of enumeration forms under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Delhi is almost complete. Along with this, the work of uploading voter related data into the digital system is also going on at a fast pace. Meanwhile, in the initial investigation, many important facts related to the verification of voter list have come to light. According to preliminary data of the Election Commission, so far 30,907 such voters have been identified who have died. At the same time, the largest number are those voters who have changed their residence. Till now, 1,20,450 voters have been found who have shifted to another place. Additionally, during verification, 12,160 voters were found who were not present at their addresses at the time of door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

SIR deadline extended in Punjab also

In Delhi as well as in Punjab, the Election Commission has changed the deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme. Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra said that now the work of door-to-door voter verification will continue till August 3. He informed that the preliminary draft (draft roll) of the voter list will be published on August 13. After this, citizens will be able to add names, make amendments or register other claims and objections in the voter list from 13 August to 12 September. According to the Chief Electoral Officer, the process of disposal of claims and objections received will continue till October 8. After this, the final voter list of Punjab will be published on October 12 incorporating all the necessary amendments.

SIR deadline extended in many states including Haryana, Andhra Pradesh

The Election Commission has extended the deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program of electoral rolls in Delhi as well as in several other states. On Wednesday, the Commission released the revised schedule for Punjab, Telangana and Karnataka. A day before this, i.e. on Tuesday (July 15), the Commission had decided to extend the deadline of SIR in Haryana and Andhra Pradesh also. The purpose of extending the duration of the program in many states has been said to be to make the process of voter verification more effective and to give adequate opportunity to all eligible citizens to enroll their names in the voter list.
