New Delhi: The 18th BRICS Summit has concluded with a new and historic chapter in global diplomacy. The meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the conference have created a new stir in international politics. After the end of the summit, an official statement has been issued by the Kremlin (Russian Presidential Palace) confirming that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping have offered help in ending the Russia-Ukraine war and taking forward peace talks.
India-China strategic initiative amid Donald Trump's efforts
US President Donald Trump is trying to end the Russia-Ukraine war, but has not achieved concrete success so far. In such a situation, the world is keeping an eye on India's role because it has historical and strong relations with Russia.
Bilateral talks were held between PM Modi and President Putin, in which it was agreed to further strengthen the relations between the two countries. Putin stressed on making BRICS a new platform for global development free from Western pressure.
PM Modi and Jinping came forward to stop the war
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov welcomed this initiative of the two Asian superpowers and said that President Putin has appreciated the intentions of PM Modi and Xi Jinping. According to Peskov, during the bilateral meetings both leaders showed keen interest in resolving the Ukraine conflict and proposed to play an active role.
In response, President Putin gave detailed information to both the heads of state about the ground situation and the current situation in Ukraine. During the conference, a smiling picture of PM Modi, Putin and Xi Jinping also surfaced, in which the three leaders are seen holding each other's hands. Diplomatic experts believe that this picture is a big strategic message for America and Western countries.
Chances of three-way talks in October
There are also talks of exploring other diplomatic avenues towards ending the Russia-Ukraine war. According to Russian media reports, the Kremlin has indicated that three-way (tripartite) talks with Ukraine and America can be held in the coming October to end this major crisis in Europe. Spokesman Peskov made it clear that Russia does not rule out any such possibility in the coming times. On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had expressed his desire to meet Putin during the G20 summit in Miami in December, but Peskov has currently rejected this possibility.
