The Deep Depression over north coastal Andhra Pradesh crossed the coast close to southwest of Kalingapatnam between 11 pm on September 23 and 1 am on September 24, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
At the time of landfall, the system had maximum sustained wind speeds of 55-65 kmph, gusting up to 75 kmph.
After crossing the coast, the system moved west-northwestwards at a speed of around 3 kmph during the six hours ending at 5.30 am on September 24.
System Located 50 Km West Of Kalingapatnam
At 5.30 am, the Deep Depression lay centred over north coastal Andhra Pradesh near latitude 18.3°N and longitude 83.7°E.
The system was located approximately 50 km west of Kalingapatnam, 80 km north-northeast of Visakhapatnam and 170 km southwest of Gopalpur in Odisha.
Deep Depression Likely To Weaken
The weather system is very likely to move northwestwards initially while maintaining its intensity as a Deep Depression for the next 12 hours, according to the IMD.
Thereafter, it is expected to move north-northwestwards and gradually weaken during the subsequent 24 hours.
The latest bulletin indicates that the system has already crossed the coast and is now moving inland over Andhra Pradesh.
