New Delhi: The low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal is now intensifying. Let us tell you, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday morning that the depression formed in the west-central and adjacent north-west Bay of Bengal can turn into a deep depression in the next 12 hours. IMD posted on X that this system has moved westwards at a speed of 18 km per hour in the last 6 hours.
At 8:30 am on September 22, it was located near 17.9 degrees north latitude and 86.0 degrees east longitude. At present it is situated about 200 km south-east of Gopalpur, 210 km south of Puri and 290 km east of Visakhapatnam.
Deep depression may hit the coast of Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur
According to the department, this system will continue to move west-northwest and may cross the coast of northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha between the night of September 23 and the morning of September 24. It may hit the coast as a deep depression between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur. If it strengthens further, it may develop into a cyclonic storm. As per the rules, the next storm to form in the North Indian Ocean has been named 'Arnab'. This name has been given by Bangladesh, which means 'ocean' in Bengali. This list of names is prepared jointly by the World Meteorological Organization and IMD.
Odisha government warned
Seeing the impact of the storm, the Odisha government has started taking precautions. Schools and Anganwadi centers have been closed in four districts of the state. The Meteorological Department has warned that there may be heavy to very heavy rain in many areas in the next two days. This poses a risk of river levels rising and flooding in low-lying areas, especially where it is already raining continuously.
Along with this, fishermen have been advised not to go into the sea. The administration has put relief and rescue teams on alert in the coastal districts. There is a possibility of strong winds and rain on the northern coast of Andhra Pradesh also. IMD has appealed to the people to keep an eye on the updates of the weather department and not leave the house unnecessarily.
