Deepti Sharma: The Indian team began its campaign at the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 with a win. The third match of the tournament was played between India and Thailand. India won by a resounding 94 runs. This match was a special one for all-rounder Deepti Sharma. She created a world record. She has now become the leading wicket-taker in women’s T20 Internationals.

Deepti Sharma made history against Thailand. She took three wickets in seven balls in her 150th T20 International match. Notably, Deepti didn’t concede a single run. With these three wickets, she also set a world record. She has now become the leading wicket-taker in women’s T20 Internationals. She also became the first Indian player to take three or more wickets in T20Is without conceding a run.

Deepti Sharma defeated Thipacha Puthawong

Deepti Sharma now has 171 wickets to her name. She surpassed Thailand’s Thipacha Putthavong, who has 170 wickets. Third is Rwanda’s Henriette Ishimwe (164). Fourth is England’s Sophie Ecclestone (154). Fifth is Hong Kong’s Kerry Chan (153). Deepti has consistently won hearts with her performances. She has led her team to victory numerous times with both her bowling and batting.

Indian innings faltered

Team India got off to a strong start against Thailand. Shafali Verma scored quickly, scoring 64 runs in 36 balls. In 10 overs, India had reached 101 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. It seemed the team would easily cross the 200-run mark. However, the Indian batting faltered later. Team India lost 7 wickets for 29 runs. The Indian team managed only 159 runs. This is a matter of concern for India. The team will have to improve in the upcoming matches.

Team India’s bowlers performed well. Kranti Gaur and Nandani Sharma dealt Thailand a major blow early on. The Thai team collapsed before the Indian spinners. Nandani took three wickets. Deepti Sharma also took three wickets. Nannapat Koncharoenkai top-scored for Thailand with 41 runs. Four of the team’s batsmen failed to even open their account.
