According to the Delhi Government, in this master plan, emphasis has been laid on redevelopment of old developed areas as well as expansion of the plan in new areas.

Two major strategies have been adopted in the master plan. Focus will be on transit oriented development, mixed land use and expansion of infrastructure in existing brown field areas. At the same time, better road network and planned development will be promoted through pooling in greenfield areas. Plan to build more than 40 lakh houses

Under MPD-2047, a target has been set to develop more than 40 lakh houses in Delhi. The minimum area limit for redevelopment of existing areas has been reduced from 40 thousand square meters to 3000 square meters. It is expected that about 7 lakh additional residential units will be constructed.

About 18 lakh affordable houses will be promoted in TOD zones around the metro corridor. There is a plan to provide decent housing to more than 17 lakh people living in slum clusters. Extra 15 percent FAR will also be allowed for labor housing on industrial plots.

New urban expansion in 200 sq km area

Under the land pooling policy, planned urban expansion is planned in an area of about 200 square kilometers. With this, about 12 lakh new houses and about 600 kilometers of road network are expected to be developed. The government will adopt the strategy of first creating infrastructure and then pursuing development. The development of UER-I, UER-II and UER-III will improve connectivity within Delhi and with other states. Also, multi-modal transit hubs will be developed to connect metro, RRTS, bus, foot and bicycle transport.

Focus on Yamuna and green area

In the master plan, emphasis has also been laid on making Delhi more green and environment-friendly. 13 major projects are proposed for the conservation and restoration of about 1,700 hectares of Yamuna floodplain. A 52 km long cycle track will also be developed on the banks of Yamuna. There is a plan to increase the green area in the city through urban forests, biodiversity parks, green corridors and local plants. Systems like rooftop solar, rain water harvesting, water recycling and waste-to-resource will be promoted.
