The Tis Hazari Court on July 24 ordered that accused Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai Sakariya and Tehsin Raza Sheikh be produced through the Special Armed Squad (SAS) for safety and security reasons. Both stand trial for serious offenses including attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy in connection with the August 2025 attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Additional Sessions Judge Nishant Garg issued the directive after hearing submissions from counsel for the accused and prosecution, as well as reviewing a report from jail authorities. The accused had requested a separate cell in the jail van during transit due to assaults by other inmates.
Advocates Siddhant Malik and Harry Chibber, representing the accused, stated that the accused were physically assaulted and threatened by other inmates while being transported. The court also considered a response from the Jail Superintendent regarding safety concerns within the jail premises. The court allowed the accused to inform it of any future incidents relating to their safety.
On the same day, the court recorded testimony from prosecution witness Dhirendra Kumar, who sustained an eye injury while attempting to protect Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during the alleged attack by Sakariya.
The court additionally permitted the release of Rs 4,160 and an Aadhaar card recovered during the personal search of Tehsin Raza Sheikh. Advocate Kartik Gadi, appearing for Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Rana, raised no objection to this release.
Earlier, on May 9, 2026, the accused reported threats to their lives, physical assaults by inmates, and threats to their families while in jail. They sought separate barracks and measures to ensure their safety and that of their families. The court had previously directed jail authorities to guarantee their protection. The accused’s counsel submitted a recording of threatening calls made to their families as evidence.
