Operation Clean Air in Delhi: Special inspection campaign of CAQM, huge amount of dust and garbage found at 17 places

Delhi Operation Clean Air: In view of the dangerous situation of air pollution in Delhi in winter, Rekha Gupta government of Delhi is continuously taking measures. Under this, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has started Operation Clean Air against road dust and construction and demolition (C&D) waste amid increasing air pollution in the national capital. On 3 October, four flying squad teams of CAQM inspected roads under the jurisdiction of PWD Delhi.

During the inspection, 25 road stretches covering about 35 kilometers of the Inner and Outer Ring Road were examined. During this period, huge amount of dust and garbage was found at 17 places on the Ring Road.

According to CAQM, regular and effective cleaning of roads is very important, because the movement of vehicles can re-disperse the dust deposited on the road into the air. Similarly, C&D waste deposited on roadsides and carriageways can also cause re-suspension of dust and affect the air quality. On the campaign, CAQM said the inspection findings highlight the need to effectively implement prescribed road cleaning, sweeping and dust control measures.

Operation Clean Air continues in Delhi-NCR

CAQM has clarified that the inspection campaign in Delhi-NCR under Operation Clean Air will continue. The objective of these campaigns is to assess the ground level implementation of pollution control measures, identify shortcomings in compliance with rules and seek timely corrective action from the agencies concerned.
