The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested two government officials for allegedly demanding bribe in exchange for approval of the pending application of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act i.e. FCRA registration. This action was taken in collaboration with central agencies on the basis of special information received from the Home Ministry. The officers were caught in New Delhi on 28 September 2026. Of the two arrested officers, one is a senior accountant and the other is working as an accountant.
Allegation of demanding bribe in exchange for pending FCRA registration
According to preliminary information, both the officers are accused of contacting an association and allegedly demanding illegal money in exchange for pursuing or getting its pending FCRA registration done. One of these officers is currently posted in the Foreigners Division of the Home Ministry. The second officer is currently working in the Pay and Accounts Office and has previously worked in the Foreigners Division of the Home Ministry.
Information about being in contact with many organizations
Initial inquiry has also revealed that both the officers were allegedly in contact with some organisations. It is alleged that they used to try to help organizations in matters related to FCRA registration and renewal by taking money illegally. However, the investigation of the case is still in the initial stage. Investigating agencies are gathering further information about the role of officials, alleged transactions and other people associated with this network.
Home Ministry has zero tolerance on corruption
The Home Ministry has clarified that a policy of zero tolerance towards corruption is adopted. Appropriate legal and departmental action is being taken against the concerned officials in this matter. The ministry has also given important information regarding the process related to FCRA. All services related to FCRA are provided online through the FCRA portal.
Appeal to be cautious of middlemen
According to the Home Ministry, no middleman, agent or any other person has been authorized to provide any service related to FCRA. In such a situation, the concerned organization needs to be careful in case any person asks for money for FCRA registration, renewal or other services.
