The Delhi Police have successfully foiled an extortion attempt targeting a senior doctor at Action Balaji Hospital, arresting a 35-year-old suspect who allegedly claimed affiliations with the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The accused, identified as Himanshu Jain, had demanded Rs 25 lakh from the medical professional, intimidating him with threats of arrest and citing precise personal details to exert pressure.
Based on a formal complaint at the Paschim Vihar East police station, a joint team from the local station and the Outer District Special Staff used technical and human intelligence to track the communications and launch a coordinated operation.
Police set a trap near Jaipur Golden Hospital in Rohini and arrested Jain on the spot when he arrived to collect the money. Officers also recovered the threat-linked mobile phone, SIM card, and the vehicle used in the crime.
Initial interrogation revealed that the accused has a prior criminal record, with previous involvement in two distinct extortion-related cases registered at the Subhash Place and Preet Vihar police stations in 2018 and 2020, respectively. Further inquiries are underway to uncover potential wider linkages.
